Update regarding upcoming releases

Just a quick update regarding our release schedule. We expect to release a new Hook build this week, including

  • changes in the schemes of links that Hook creates, which we mentioned here.
  • Support for the the Archive app.
  • Improved support for HoudahSpot app.
  • Changes to import / export.
  • Several other improvements and bug fixes.

There may be another beta build after that. We will release some more documentation. If all goes well, Hook will likely exit public beta at that point and be blessed as the official 1.0 release.

Thanks to everyone for using Hook and the feedback you have provided. We greatly enjoy help you link your digital lives, and we appreciate your input and continued support.

Following that 1.0 release, we have a long list of further improvements that we are very eager to bring to you.

By the way, I recently had occasion to use Base database browsing app and found that Hook works out of the box with it. If you find Hook works for an app that is not listed in https://hookproductivity.com/what-mac-apps-are-compatible-with-hook-app, please feel free to let us know.

I’m not seeing a new release yet, and since it’s been a month since the last beta – which just expired – I’m all outta Hook…. Anything I can do?

VERY SORRY. I’m in process of releasing it…

Here it is https://dl.devmate.com/com.cogsciapps.hook/Hook.dmg

Looks like I was just a few hours too impatient! Glad to see the improved new version drop.

Does the integration with Kalendar.app already work? So far it still makes Hook hang forever, forcing to kill it from the command line. Thanks!

Thanks for asking, @eMaX .

I have responded to your question in a new topic of a different Category, because it’s not about this topic per se.

I was happy to see that support for TheArchive was added. But when I try to bring up Hook when in TheArchive, I still get the message “No linkable item found”.

Just to make sure, we’re talking about this application: https://zettelkasten.de/the-archive/

Yes.

One needs to ensure when invoking Hook in The Archive that the focus is on the title (left sidebar), not in the text editor (right side of the window). This is because The Archive does not have an AppleScript dictionary, therefore Hook gets the address and title using UI scripting. We’ll have another look as to whether this constraint can be relaxed for this app.

Also, one needs to ensure that Hook has given permission to Hook, in Security & Privacy > Automation > Privacy > Hook, to access The Archive.

We have some tips here for Contacting developers of other apps to request automation. We’ll reach out to its developers too.

Great, thank you for the tip to select the item in the sidebar! It would be amazing if you could also get it to work when the text editor is selected.

This will be in the next Script update, available automatically if enabled on Hook > Preferences > Update tab.

The update is in Script bundle version 54, deployed recently. Current version is 55, with other updates.
