I am using Hookmark 6.10 and the Sequoia 15.5. I am trying to get bidirectional links to work. Nothing works. What steps can I take to troubleshoot this problem. I can set up a link between two files and it seems like it linked. It shows it linked, but when I come back to it the hooked file does not show.
I found in Automation I have two Hookmarks. One has a lot of apps listed and the other has just a few. I turned off the one with the few apps listed. It seems to be an older version of Hookmark and rebooted. Still cannot create bidirectional links.
Thank you for contacting us, @lwjkjr .
Is the old version from SetApp? If it is not, go to folder â~/Library/Application Support/com.cogsciapps.hook/â (Finder ->Go->Go to FolderâŚ), delete the following two files:
1.1
1.2
Then restart Hookmark. See if it fixes the problem.
Thank you
I found both files and deleted them. I restarted Hookmark and they reappeared. Very confused! I tried again deleting and they did not instantly come back. Will continue this thread after I see if Hookmark is now working and I reboot.
Just tried making a bidirectional link and it did not work.
I rebooted the computer and those files came back.
Thank you for the information, @lwjkjr .
(1) First, could you please make sure you have only one copy of Hookmark.app(6.10) on your Mac, delete all older version of Hookmark ?
(2)Then go to folder â~/Library/Application Support/com.cogsciapps.hook/â (Finder ->Go->Go to FolderâŚ), delete the following two files:
1.1
1.2
These files will come back. Donât worry about it.
(3) Restart Hookmark
(4)Try making a bidirectional link again. Please check Hookmark version in Hookmark about window and make sure it is Hookmark 6.10.
- I made sure I have only one copy of Hookmark and that it is 6.10
- Deleted those 2 files
- Restarted Hookmark
- Tryed making bidirectional link again. When I make it shows the hooked file but when you go to look again it is not there.
Thank you for your patience, @epetrack .
For the same file, could you please
(1)Invoke Hookmark window, do âCopy As Markdown Linkâ, paste it in a file
(2)Invoke Hookmark window again, do âCopy As Markdown Linkâ, paste it in a file
(3)Compare these two links, are they the same?
Also could you please try hook two web URLs and see if bi-directional linking works:
(1)Go to a web page, invoke Hookmark window, do âCopy Linkâ
(2)Go to a different web page, invoke Hookmark window, do âHook to Copied Linkâ
(3)Invoke Hookmark window again, see if the link is there.
Thank you
Thank you, @lwjkjr .
Theoretically, they should be the same. This is the first time we encounter this issue.
Are your files stored in some cloud storage?
No, they are not in cloud storage.
When you invoke Hookmark on these files, are they in Finder or opened in Melle?
Are these files on your local drive or network drive?
Thank you
I donât use a network drive. I just tried files in many different places â locallyâ and I have the same behavior. (The Melle thing was just a pdf manual I did not have Melle opened.)
(At least my one-way links still work and have always worked great. I just watched a YouTube video about the bi-directional links and thought how great that would be and tried it.)
Have you tried linking web URLs?
When you a moment, Could you please:
(1)Go to Hookmark Settings window ->Scripts->Finder->Get Address, copy the script
(2)Open /Applications/Utilities/Script Editor, paste the script in the editor
(3)Select âmellel_guide_MANUAL.pdfâ in Finder
(4)Click the run button in Script Editor
(5)Copy the result in the Result Pane and paste in a file
(6)Run the script again, copy the result in the Result Pane and paste in a file
(7)Compare the result from step (5) and (6), are they the same?
Thank you
I just tried linking web links and they do not link. It shows the hooked file after I do the operation but when I come back to it and check it is not hooked. I will do the script next.
(Give me some time for the next activity because my wife wants me to do something.)
Just finished your script operation with the Mellel pdf file. They are exactly the same result.
Thank you, @lwjkjr . Thatâs wonderful news. If possible, could you please try it again later and see if there is any change.
Did you hook a web URL to a file? If yes, please try Hooking a web URL to another web URL, or any other non-file URL.
No rush. You need a happy wife.
Thank you
Yes, happy wife, happy life.
It was web url to web url. I will try the whole thing again and the Mellel pdf and other files. Give me some time to do this and I will come back and post.
Just tried web link url to web link url. Does not work.
On to the files again.
I tried it on many files and they all are the exactly the same output in the script window. I did copy the script outputs and paste it elsewhere and looked at it until I was sure it was exactly the same.
Tryed it again today. No luck on bi-directional.
Thank you very much for the information and your patience, @lwjkjr .
If you open Hookmarkâs Bookmarks window, can you see the bookmarks you created in the previous posts?
If your Hookmark is running in foreground mode, You can open Bookmarks window by clicking Hookmark dock icon. Otherwise, you can click on âShow Bookmarks windowâ button in Hookmark contexual window.
Thank you
Is this meant for me. It seems it might be for a different thread. This doesnât seem to apply to the conversation we have been having.
What is the next step I should take to troubleshoot this problem with bi-directional links?
