Why on Earth Do Knowledge Workers Need Hookmark?

Hookmark can be hard to understand at first because it solves a type of problem that no other software previously addressed. In my Cognitive Productivity: Using Knowledge to Become Profoundly Effective book, I called this the meta-access problem problem. It addresses a new type of information retrieval need.

  1. Traditional information retrieval asks: “Where is this document?”

2. Semantic retrieval asks: “What documents discuss this topic?”.

  1. I believe we increasingly need contextual information retrieval: “Given what I’m working on right now, what else belongs with it?”
