Version 162 of Hook software integration is now available: Supports Apple News

Version 162 of Hook software integration is now available, which adds support for Apple News. This means you can now

  • “hook” (bidirectionally link) Apple News articles to anything addressable, such as Apple Notes, Craft documents and OmniOutliner (Hook to Copied Link).
  • Hook to New from Apple News articles, allowing you to take notes about deep articles
  • Copy Markdown Link in Apple News and paste in your favorite Markdown-enabled editor like Craft, Bear, Drafts, MultiMarkdown Composer and nvUltra
  • Copy Link and paste anywhere (e.g., Apple Notes)

Many of those apps are available can sync to iPad and iPhone, which means your Apple News links will be available there.

You’ll be happy to know that those commands also add a bookmark in Hook, which means that you can later find the items with Hook’s nifty search tool. (You can rename bookmarks too with the current Hook. The upcoming Hook 2.3 rounds out the renaming feature.)

Uses Apple News’ ⌥⌘C shortcut to Copy Link. If you’re using a different Copy Link keyboard shortcut in News, you’ll need to change the keyboard shortcut in Hook’s News integration script, which requires Hook Pro and is easy to do.

How to get the updated integration

Hook’s automatic software update (if enabled) automatically updates Hook’s integration scripts without you needing to relaunch Hook. Using Hook’s Check for App Updates and Update Scripts command also updates the scripts, without you needing to relaunch Hook.
