💡 Tip: Use Hookmark files instead of Finder aliases

Hookmark files are so powerful – and yet so simple to use! However…

When you create a Finder alias, the file is stored in the same folder as the item for which you are making an alias. In contrast, Hookmark stores its new .hookmark files in the Hookmark folder’s “Hookmark files” subfolder. Hookmark does this because the .hookmark file can point not merely to files and folders, but web resources too.

I see the advantage of being able to access web resources with a Hookmark link, but I see real advantages to the way creating Finder aliases doesn’t require you leave the context where you are working. I’ve written this up as a Feature Request, with a use-case, here:

I’m finally appreciating the power of Hookmark files! My key use-case: I want to ensure that I don’t have duplicates for the articles that I use for my research, even though I may use the same article for two publications I’m writing, as well as for a seminar I’m teaching.
