TIP: There's a bug in Apple Mail. Hookmark 6.4 offers a solution

Ever since macOS 10.14 (Ventura) there’s been a bug in Apple Mail. When you paste a single hyperlink in Apple Mail, only the URL of the link will appear, not its name. Yet if you copy and paste two links, or a link and some text, Apple Mail treats the links properly.

We @ CogSciApps have created a special command in Hookmark 6.4 to get around the single-link pasting problem. It is called: Copy Link for Apple Mail.

To access the command:

  1. in any linkable app, invoke Hookmark’s Context window ( ⌃H will get you there)
  2. Click on the Action ☰ button in the title bar of the window.
  3. click on Advanced
  4. Select Copy Link for Apple Mail.

Or simply use the keyboard shortcut: ⌥⇧M in Hookmark.

Why did we bother creating this command? Because copying links to be pasted in mail apps is one of the most common use cases for Hookmark. Hookmark makes it super easy to copy links to anything. Just invoke Hookmark in any linkable app, and press ⌘C. Or use a global shortcut.

If you’ve already got a link from some other app in your clipboard, and want to paste it in Apple Mail without using Hookmark, you can paste it in Apple Notes, add a space after the link, and copy and paste the link with the space. Then Apple Mail will accept the link properly, i.e., title and URL. Or you can use Hookmark, which is simpler:

  1. Invoke Hookmark’s Context window (⌃H),
  2. Choose Focus on Link in Clipboard (⌃⌘L), or use the gear menu and
  3. Choose Copy Link for Apple Mail (⌥⇧M)

Hookmark is a “Swiss Army” knife for linking on macOS. We pride ourselves in covering the vast majority of use cases of linking.
