I wanted to try Hookmark again - assuming I could use the basic Hook function to decide if I want to buy standard - but when I try to create bookmarks even the basic copy link function is unavailable - greyed out in context menu. I can only drag files to the hookmark window and open files from there.
I’m sure this is some kind of installation issue. I used the mole terminal tool to remove all files and reinstalled, but still no functionality at all.
Even though I love Hookmark, I think these kinds of things happening are an important signal that we should always keep our references local rather than entrusting them to any tool. I am currently writing an app that - at least on the PDF level - allows to relate points in files to one another, and keeps those references part of the PDFs themselves, instead of storing them externally. Of course I also support Hookmark, and Hookmark makes a lot of sense if you pull together multiple kinds of sources.
But if I have the choice to store a hookmark url in my obsidian vault, or a direct reference to the PDF, I’d chose the PDF.
