Outlook hooks on multiple Macs sync differently

I use a Mac mini at work and personal MacBook at home, so hook syncing is very important to me. I’m glad that it’s supported and seems to work great, but Outlook has raised an issue.

(Sidenote, I’m happy to use the old version of Outlook that supports hooking, my main use is hooking Things tasks to emails that contain relevant info.)

When I hook an email at my work computer the link is link://Outlook/3043, but that does nothing on my personal computer – on it, Hooking the same email results in link://Outlook/15374. I believe this is because I used my personal computer at my last job and Outlook emails from it are still on my computer, despite having logged out of and lost access to that email. So the links are off by 12,331 because, I assume, there are 12,331 old emails on this computer.

I’m happy to remove those but don’t know where to find them. When I do remove them, will the index update so that Outlook links use the same number between computers? Thank you!

Welcome to Hookmark forum, @mitch .

Unlike other email clients, such as Apple Maile, MS Outlook did not serve a RFC-5322 compliant ID for email messages, making it impossible to create links to emails in Outlook that worked across different instances of Outlook, even for the same user. Nor of course could those links be used between different users.

Thank you
