Confusing deviations between synchronised computers

I’ve only recently started playing more intensively with Hookmark, but I have a few things here that I don’t understand.

I have two computers running Hookmark. Both have synchronisation enabled via iCloud. I have checked the settings. The Hookmark folder was in the iCloud folder on both computers. Hookmark was activated in the iCloud settings on both computers.

But I still noticed that I had 63 bookmarks on one computer and 57 on the other.

I then changed the synchronisation from iCloud to a Dropbox folder. With the same result. Then I uninstalled Hookmark on one computer, deleted all the data and then reinstalled it. With the same result. Computer A: 63 bookmarks. Computer B 57.

During this action I also noticed that Hookmark does not like German umlauts in the names. The umlaut ä, for example, is converted to √§§. If I then correct this, it does so on computer A, but not on computer B. What kind of weird problem is this?

Sorry about this issue, @knrk .

What’s your Hookmark’s version?

Are the data on this two computers identical? If a file exist on Computer A but does not exist on Computer B, then the bookmark is not synced to computer B.

We will have a look.

What’s your Hookmark’s version?

6.4.1 (6107; Integration v. 342).

Are the data on this two computers identical?

This is confusing for me. Hookmark is set up the same on both computers. The Hookmark folder is located in user > Documents > Hookmark. However, the ‘Hookmark Files’ folder is empty on both computers. Sync is activated on both computers via the same Dropbox folder. This folder is identical on both computers. Nevertheless, one computer now only has 62 bookmarks (computer A), while the other still has 57 (computer B). And when I sort the bookmarks by name, the list on computer A does not correspond to the list on computer B. I don’t mean that the list on computer A contains five more bookmarks. I mean that there are entries in the bookmarks for files that I have not looked at for months in some cases. Let alone added to Hookmark. Dude! I’ve never seen anything like it.

Another phenomenon, and here it comes: I can find entries in the bookmarks that are not displayed. Example: A bookmark with the name ‘20230301_AS_ER_Buchführung 2022’. I can see this bookmark on computer B in the ‘All Bookmarks’ list. If I sort the list by name, this bookmark appears at the top. If I sort the list of bookmarks on computer A, this bookmark does not appear there. However, if I enter the name in the search, it is displayed.

I think I’ll delete it all again very quickly. I really don’t have time for this. It’s too much black magic for me.

Hard to believe? But it is.

Computer A - Bookmark List

Computer B - Bookmark List

Computer B - Search for missing file which was not listed before

On the last picture you can also see the issue with the German umlauts. Maybe all this come from that. Who knows…
