BBEdit an august, powerful link-friendly text editor, partner for the Month of August

We’re delighted that BBEdit, developed by Bare Bones Software, has been our Partner for the Month of August. This partnership is a great opportunity to showcase the power of linking in the context of editing text documents in this powerful text editor. We wish to welcome all new Hookmark users who heard about Hookmark through this partnership.

BBEdit is a fully linkable app. Rich Siegel and Patrick Woolsey of Bare Bones Software are original signatories of the Manifesto for Ubiquitous Linking.

We here at CogSci Apps Corp. use BBEdit daily. This includes note-taking; but it goes well beyond that. For instance, all our blog posts and long-form forum posts are written in BBEdit. Our internal documentation is written in Markdown using BBEdit. I use BBEdit for all my text editing needs.

For example, when I want to respond to a forum post with some detail, I simply invoke Hookmark and type ⌘N. This creates a new text document, names it according to the post, hooks it to the post, and opens it in BBEdit. The new text file opens in BBEdit because BBEdit is my default Hook to New application type (configured in Hookmark’s Notes Preferences). I draft my reply in BBEdit and then copy & paste my reply in the forum post. BBEdit has a markdown mode so I can preview my reply in BBEdit. BBEdit is compatible with Grammarly, which gives me feedback on my text.

I do the same thing when I reply to posts on other people’s websites, or when I fill out a form on a website. That way, I have a local copy of my reply, and it’s hooked to the source. This also provides a bookmark to the source because Hookmark automatically bookmarks each side of a hook.

Using BBEdit to edit markdown documents gives us full access to BBEdit’s powerful editing features.

The seamless integration between BBEdit and Hookmark makes my text editing experience incredibly convenient.
