Fleeting or Temporary Links

So I’ve had Hookmark for a long time and I haven’t used much of its capabilities.

One of the primary ways I use it was to just copy a link to an email in Apple Mail and paste the link in a task in Omnifocus, so when I’m ready to do the task I can click the link to read the email in detail.

Well I’ve now completely cleared out my Hookmark database to start fresh and learn all the cool ways I can use Hookmark.

One thing I’m not sure of now is the way I was using Hookmark before makes a lot of links that will now show up “forever” in the Bookmarks window, but really my need for that link is only temporary. Once I complete the task in Omnifocus, for many things, there is a 97% chance I will never need that link again. But now it will be stuck in Hookmark forever.

I was curious how I can still use Hookmark for this purpose but maybe automatically tag those links with something easily, and maybe periodically I clear those out of the database. Is anyone doing this? Or is it just not worth it keeping the Hookmark database tidy?

Thanks so much for the help!

I personally don’t bother curating my bookmarks. Hookmark’s database can handle any number of them. There’s a recent view, or sorting by date created, that will make them less visible. That way I don’t need to think of what to keep and what to discard.

Gotcha. I see. Thanks for replying!

I have had Hm for about 3 years and now have 458 links, 238 of which are dead according to the Hm script to locate dead links. Unfortunately the unformatted list is essentially unusable unless you want to spend several hours doing it by hand. I don’t understand why the dead list cannot be used to filter an export of the db, even if you had to confirm the delete of each dead link. I also don’t understand Hookmarks reluctance to add this as a feature even though I’ve seen several mentions. Links beat searching I get, but searching for links?

Edit: I also thought the tabbed layout might be preliminary to a final product. sorry.

Hookmark does this :

When you export Hookmark links, Hookmark does not include links to files that are not currently mounted / reachable. This effectively purges links to files that have been deleted or on media that you no longer use. However, this leads to the following caution[…].

So when you import you won’t have the dead links.
