Version 158 of Hook software integration: Linking the Craft writing app to anything, and updated Deep PDF-linking in Skim

Version 158 of Hook software integration is now available, with support for the new Craft native Mac writing app, and updated support for deep-PDF linking in the Skim Mac app.

  1. Craft requires macOS 10.15 (Catalina) or Big Sur. Hook supports Craft in macOS Big Sur. macOS 10.15 support is TBD. The Hook to New > Craft integration is not yet available.
  2. Hook’s deep PDF-linking in the Skim Mac app now provides x,y parameters for precise interoperability with other PDF apps that support deep linking. See Deep PDF Links Take You Right Where You Need to Focus – Hook.

Stay tuned for more information about connecting your Craft documents to anything using Hook.

How to get the updated integration

Hook’s automatic software update (if enabled) automatically updates Hook’s integration scripts without you needing to relaunch Hook. Using Hook’s Check for App Updates and Update Scripts command also updates the scripts, without you needing to relaunch Hook.

Thanks for the update! It looks like the x, y values are remaining at zero when I try to create a deep link after highlighting text in Skim, e.g. hook://file/unQfKJKwU?p=UmVzZWFyY2gvQmlibGlvZ3JhcGh5&n=Rudd2004LES_Lines%20of%20enquiry.pdf#p=36&x=0&y=0&s=453&e=585. As before, the link takes you to the beginning of the page, not the beginning of the selection.

Is this a limitation of Skim itself? The PDFPenPro deep links work fantastically, but it’d be great for the same experience in Skim as it seems to be a faster, more robust app than PDFPenPro.

This is great news! I really like the ability to add hook-links to my files in Craft, to create a reference tool, to let me find old files again on my Mac.

Hook > New Craft would be highly appreciated!

Thank you for an amazing tool!

The Craft developers value automation and linking; they’re great. So … stay tuned

The latest version of Craft (v 1.3.6) has an issue that breaks the main form of linking integration , namely the Hook window in a particular Crafts document. The error message from Craft says “Please try again later”.

Work-arounds:

1.The Hook window works in the All Documents view.

2. You can also use Hook’s search tool to find any Craft document:

url:"craftdocs*"

you can add extra search parameters of course. You can navigate the network of links from the selected Craft bookmark. (The Hook window is a navigator.)

3. You can presumably roll back Craft with Time Machine, though I have not tried that.

Craft have acknowledged and fixed the problem. It will be in the next release ETA Tue. (They update Craft quite frequently.)

I have updated to Craft 1.3.6, and I still get the “No linkable item found in Hook” message. I was considering purchasing a Hook license, but until this is resolved, I think I will hold off. I hope it is resolved soon!

Welcome to the Hook Productivity Forum , @skeskali. It’s a drag after our celebration of the compatibility, but I’m delighted that Craft quickly fixed the issue internally and it will be in the next release.

Hook’s integration with Craft is based on its x-callback-url — which is very nice. (Devs don’t need to provide AppleScript, JavaScript or CLI to make their apps linkable. x-callback-url is enough).
